Counteroffer may kill Briggs deal

Updated: April 2, 2007, 6:35 PM ET
Any counteroffer from the Bears that would ask more of the Redskins could be a deal breaker in the tenuous Lance Briggs trade talks.

This isn't much of a negotiation. The Redskins are offering to swap first-round picks with the Bears, sending the No. 6 pick in the draft to Chicago for No. 31 and Briggs. Figuring the Bears would need a weakside linebacker to replace Briggs, they could ask for Rocky McIntosh, last year's No. 2 pick by the Redskins. The Redskins don't plan to throw him in.

McIntosh would likely want out of Washington if Briggs is brought in to replace him, but trading him would be a separate deal. It's up to the Bears to decide if they want the No. 6 pick.
