Kohlschreiber keeps German hopes alive with win

MUNICH, Germany -- Second-seeded Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic advanced to the BMW Open quarterfinals Thursday, beating Chile's Nicolas Massu 7-5, 6-1.

Berdych will face France's Nicolas Devilder, a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Germany's Tobias Summerer.

Philipp Kohlschreiber upset fifth-seeded Jarkko Nieminen of Finland 6-1, 6-4 to keep alive hopes for the first German winner since Michael Stich 13 years ago.
