Checking out active leaders

Updated: July 20, 2007, 4:20 PM ET
While lying outside on my hammock the other day perusing the active leaderboards in baseball -- don't even tell me you don't ever find yourself doing this -- I noticed some names on the offensive lists I didn't expect. Steve Finley leads all actives in triples. Curt Schilling leads in K/BB ratio. And who is this Barry Bonds guy and when did he hit all these home runs?

Obviously, to be on an active hitting leaderboard for cumulative stats, one has to have been playing baseball for quite a while, and since we know many fantasy baseballers were more apt to draft Alex Gordon than Gary Sheffield, this all goes back to a common theme in this blog, that older players get ignored. It's not just pitchers like Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson. Let's peruse the hitting leaderboards -- I'll bring the laptop outside for this -- and see if any of this has fantasy relevance. I think it might.
