Main Event lacks intrigue, competition

LAS VEGAS -- The first two days of the Las Vegas summer basketball circuit consisted of spectacular exhibitions (Jrue Holiday), intriguing matchups (Brandon Jennings vs. William Buford) and bewildering performances (Renardo Sidney). However, the third day would best be described as the day of the mismatch. While the other two events (Reebok and Adidas) pit the most talented teams against each other, the Main Event utilizes the pool play format with one elite team in each pool. As a result coaches and scouts are stuck watching a plethora of blowouts and uninspiring performances.
