Olsen gives Bears options
Olsen suffered a knee injury in the final preseason game, though, and his availability for Week 1 is in question. Losing his presence from the lineup would shrink the game plan and allow San Diego defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell do double-cover or at least give coverage help on the perimeter receivers. The prospect of having to defend the speed of Olsen, Bernard Berrian and Devin Hester at the same time would create big problems within the Chargers' defensive scheme.
Speed from the wideouts, inside slots and tight end would have gone a long way toward helping a Chicago running game that struggled in the preseason, and head coach Lovie Smith was looking forward to a more balanced attack in the regular season with that speed in his arsenal. The Bears will still look to establish their rushing attack early but the offense will not be as diverse if Olsen is not in the lineup.
