2008 Braves at a glance

Updated: November 18, 2007, 12:28 PM ET
Tom Glavine and the Braves are close to finishing his deal, which means that Atlanta's rotation should look something like this:
  1. John Smoltz
  2. Glavine
  3. Tim Hudson (You figure Bobby Cox will line up the soft-tossing Glavine between his hard-throwing right-handers).
  4. Chuck James
  5. Mike Hampton

If the Braves get their closer situation squared away and Yunel Escobar is as good as everybody thinks he can be, they have a chance to be an excellent team next season, because the lineup looks like it will be solid, again:

  • SS Escobar
  • 2B Kelly Johnson
  • 3B Chipper Jones
  • 1B Mark Teixeira
  • RF Jeff Francoeur
  • C Brian McCann
  • LF Matt Diaz/Willie Harris
  • CF ???
There are lots of moves to come all around the majors, time for the Mets and Phillies to plug holes. Right now, these would be the projected division front-runners here:
