Adding Hughes won't mean much
I can't explain how Hughes went off for 36 points on Tuesday, other than to say stuff like that happens. I was discussing this very topic with our superstar fantasy hoops editor Keith Lipscomb, a Cavaliers fan, and trust me, he didn't believe this was a sign of things to come for his fave team, either. I compared Hughes doing this to that magical night nearly 13 years to the day (Thursday was the anniversary, actually) when sniper Willie Burton lit up the team that released him earlier that season, the Miami Heat, for a Spectrum-record 53 points. Yep, nobody had scored more in that building for the home team. Burton didn't have much of a career after that, but on that one night, he was terrific.
Hughes will probably stick around a bit longer than Burton did, and he does have fantasy value for the steals and, well, that's about it, but don't get too excited about him. LeBron James also returned for that win over Indiana, but look for his minutes to go way up. Point guard Daniel Gibson, the team's No. 4 scorer, missed the game after getting a wisdom tooth pulled. That sounds like a Hughes-type of injury!
