The latest draft buzz

The draft is just 11 days away, with the first round to be broadcast on ESPN2 at 2 p.m. ET on June 5, which means it's the time of year when the flow of draft gossip goes from a trickle to a flood. Here's what I saw and heard on the road last week:

• Plenty of GMs were on hand at the SEC tournament, with Theo Epstein, Kevin Towers and Kenny Williams all making appearances. Williams also showed up at the ACC tournament on Saturday. The White Sox are rumored to be leaning towards either Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham, who went 1-for-6 with a walk and three strikeouts in Georgia's two-and-out run, or Arizona State third baseman Brett Wallace for the No. 8 overall pick.

Scott Green of Kentucky has been a hot name of late due to the reappearance of his mid-90s velocity in recent outings, but Kentucky head coach John Cohen sent a strong message on Thursday. With a bye on the line, he didn't use Green or even warm him up in close situations throughout the game, as the lead changed hands four times in the last three innings. With a one-run lead to start the ninth, Cohen kept left-hander Anthony Albers in the game with three righties coming up. The first batter singled, and Green finally appeared in the game; he threw five pitches, touching 94, and Michael Guerrero sent his fifth pitch out of the park for a walk-off two-run homer. When your coach doesn't trust you in big-game situations, it's a red flag for scouts.
