Your weekly random thoughts …

I grew up 20 minutes from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and when I got my first job after college as a sportswriter at the local paper, The Saratogian, I moved into an apartment there. I lived right down the street from the famed thoroughbred race track, so close that when they blew the bugle at post time I could hear it from the parking lot of the my building. The Saratoga track is called the "graveyard of champions" because so many favorites have gone down to defeat during the summer meet over the years. Just check out this collection of fighters who suffered career-debilitating defeats in major upsets:

• Mike Oliver was 21-0 and next in line to fight Steve Molitor for a junior featherweight title before being drilled by Reynaldo Lopez.
