The Original 'Snowmobile'

Ever wonder where the word "snowmobile" comes from? Well, according to a sidebar piece in the New York Times, the coinage of "snowmobile" dates back to the 1910s and the heyday of the Ford Model T. A Model T dealer from New Hampshire pioneered snow-centric modification kits—the result was what inventor Virgil D. White called a "snowmobile."
