'Fill-in' goalies save the day
If we were looking for a way to sum up Dec. 10, 2008, in the NHL, we'd call it the "night of the unappreciated goalie."
In New Jersey, Scott Clemmensen is showing that he is far more than just a journeyman, AHL-caliber goaltender. The 31-year-old stopped 26 of 27 shots as the Devils beat the Penguins 4-1. Clemmensen has emerged as New Jersey's top option in net after an injury to future Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur, along with the recent unimpressive play of Kevin Weekes.
