Colts D-coordinator Meeks resigns

The Indianapolis Colts announced Tuesday that Ron Meeks, their defensive coordinator for the past seven years, has resigned.

The move sets up new coach Jim Caldwell to hire a top defensive assistant who could lead the team away from the Tampa 2 defense that Tony Dungy was known for and look to add some size to a team that's put a premium on speed on defense.

The Colts were third overall in defense in 2007 but dropped to 11th in 2008, 24th against the run.
