Hollinger's Insider Gems: Feb. 18, 2009

1. A couple of league sources I talked to yesterday are wondering about the Nets. Wondering, more specifically, if the team is under far more pressure to trade Vince Carter and his outsized contract than it's letting on, and if some of the offers we've heard about in the past couple of days were smoke screens leaked by New Jersey in order to up the ante.

It certainly would make sense. The Nets are losing piles of money and won't be moving to their hoped-for new home in Brooklyn any time soon, if ever. And as long as they're in East Rutherford, they're going to have trouble generating enough revenue to maintain an NBA-level payroll.
