LSU shortstop D.J. LeMahieu on Friday extended his hitting streak to 21 games (dating back to last season) with two home runs and two walks in five plate appearances. The sophomore led off the second inning with a solo home run to left. He later smacked a three-run shot to center field to put the game away, giving the Tigers a comfortable 6-1 lead.

LeMahieu, likely a third baseman at the pro level, is hitting .588/.682/1.353 with six extra-base hits and three walks in five games for top-ranked LSU. At 6-foot-4 and just under 200 pounds, LeMahieu, who already has displayed a lack of ideal range and footwork at short, will spend the season trying to prove to scouts that his bat will play elsewhere.
