Bills making contingency plan at RB

Updated: March 6, 2009, 11:31 AM ET
Now we know why the Bills are looking to sign a running back in free agency. Marshawn Lynch pleaded guilty Thursday to a misdemeanor weapon's charge and was sentenced to 80 hours of community service and three years of probation.

Because he pleaded guilty to a traffic violation involving a hit-and-run incident less than a year ago, Lynch could be facing a two- to four-game suspension for violations of the NFL personal conduct policy. Particularly because of the gun plea, commissioner Roger Goodell isn't going to just fine Lynch. Apparently, the Bills figure he could be suspended. They have brought in running backs Kevin Jones and DeShaun Foster for visits and will probably sign one of them.

Walker helps Raiders: Wide receiver Javon Walker saved the Raiders around $7 million by restructuring his contract. Walker almost retired last year, but Al Davis convinced him to stay and has supported him when many thought Walker would be released. Walker now has a cap number of $3.833 million and the guarantee he will return to the team this year.
