Jackson: Winter improving in hospital
LOS ANGELES -- Tex Winter, the longtime Los Angeles Lakers consultant and mentor to coach Phil Jackson, is recovering in a Kansas hospital from an apparent stroke.
Winter, 87, fell ill Saturday morning in Manhattan, where he was attending a Kansas State basketball reunion. He coached the Wildcats from 1954-68.
"The assessment today is some of his faculties are coming back and he's improving," Jackson said Sunday at the Lakers' suburban practice gym.
