For a pair of college prospects who were posting middling numbers just a few weeks ago, hot finishes to the conference seasons may be boosting their draft stock as much as their batting averages.
LSU outfielder Jared Mitchell was hitting .284 versus SEC opponents through April 25 but went 8 for his next 17 to jump to .318 and finished the SEC tournament Sunday 1-for-1 at the plate to close out the year at .333. Mitchell's on-base skills aren't questioned, so his batting average and ability to make consistent contact against stronger competition were important.
