Penny, Giants agree to deal

Right-hander Brad Penny cleared waivers Monday and agreed to a minor league deal with the San Francisco Giants on Monday.

Penny, 31, was 7-8 with a 5.61 ERA with the Red Sox this season and is 101-83 in his career. He will make a prorated minimum salary with the Giants and is expected to replace Joe Martinez in the Giants rotation.
