Tigers, Twins and my award picks

Carl Pavano seemed almost out of breath Sunday night, naturally, at the end of a day in which he and the Twins had won a game they had to win, after the Tigers had won, too, and after the formal closing ceremony for the Twins' time in the Metrodome. "This is an exciting time in this city," Pavano said. No doubt. For the Twins, this has played out like homecoming weekend at a small college, with so many ex-players returning to Minneapolis for the festivities. Before he pitched Sunday, Pavano chatted with Frank Viola and Dan Gladden and accepted best wishes from many others, and then on Sunday afternoon, he participated in the closing ceremonies at the Metrodome -- a little different, he mentioned, then when he was a member of the Expos on the final day that team played in Montreal.
