Week 4: The Monday mood

I wrote Friday about all the overinflation going on with NFL spreads this season. That's what happens when favorites keep covering. This past weekend, the Bears, Colts, Giants, Texans and Niners all were more than touchdown favorites and all covered. Easily.

Naturally, bookmakers are reacting to this by making the numbers for this weekend even bigger. "We have the Giants minus-16 over the Raiders. Pittsburgh is 10.5 over Detroit. Philly is going to be two touchdowns against Tampa and Minnesota is a 10-point favorite against the Rams. It could jump higher if they play well tonight," says Jay Rood, the Mirage boss bookmaker. "Nobody is afraid to lay the points."
