Five on the rise

1. Aaron Brooks, PG, Houston Rockets

Young PGs tend to have a steeper learning curve than their peers at other positions. More to the point -- 73% of players similar to Brooks at the same age improved the following season. And none of them was about to take on a bigger role in an offense missing T-Mac and Yao Ming.

2. Danilo Gallinari, F, New York Knicks

After battling a back injury as a rookie, Gallinari is healthy and will see more action in his sophomore season. When he was able to get on the court, the European was an extremely accurate shooter. Kevin Pelton of Basketball Prospectus' SCHOENE system -- Standarized Comparable Heuristic Optimizing Empirical NBA Evolution metric -- offers Mike Miller and J.R. Smith as comparisons to Gallinari.
