Chargers' Floyd an 'interesting' fantasy pickup

Good for Malcom Floyd. It's always nice to see deserving, young players get opportunities to shine. The problem from a fantasy aspect is that Floyd's situation with the San Diego Chargers, while better than it was a week ago, remains difficult if we're asking him to provide strong fantasy value. That's just a reality of pro football when a good offense has so many other weapons.

The Chris Chambers release on Monday obviously helps Floyd, and makes two strong statements. On one hand, it's a clear signal the former Pro Bowler -- rip him if you like, but he has had multiple productive seasons in his career -- is just about done. But it's also an indication that the Chargers feel comfortable with Floyd starting and holding his own opposite Vincent Jackson. While Chambers remains owned in nearly a third of ESPN leagues, Floyd is available in about 99 percent of them. That's not surprising, but I suspect those ownership numbers to trend in the opposite direction in the coming week. The problem is, maybe they shouldn't.
