Phil Simms' son to play for the Vols

Landing Matt Simms (Torrance, Calif./El Camino College) was big for Tennessee. The Vols have Nick Stephens and no depth behind him for next season and while Class of 2010 Elite 11 selection Tyler Bray has plenty of upside (think poor man's Ryan Mallett), chances are he won't be ready to throw into the fire against Southeastern Conference defenses next season. Personally, I've always been high on Simms. I think in the right system he can get it done. He's a different type of quarterback than his older brother Chris or his father, Super Bowl winning-quarterback Phil, but he has plenty of good qualities. He's smart, tough and is more than capable of running Lane Kiffin's offense. The expectation is he will compete for the starting job and at the very least provide depth at the position. The irony here is that Chris Simms once upon a time was verbally committed to the Vols before having a change of heart and switching to Texas. So there finally will be a Simms to play in Rocky Top.
