AFC running backs take over in fantasy football

Now that the Jacksonville Jaguars have lost this week and opened the door for the other barely .500 teams in the AFC to make a run for the final wild-card spot, it dawned on me that those teams are so alike. Look at the quarterbacks for the New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins. See one you like for fantasy football? Me neither, but man, I sure do like those running backs. Think about how fantasy football owners judged Thomas Jones, Ray Rice and Ricky Williams back in August when it was draft time.

To many drafters, Jones was too old to be a reliable fantasy football option. That came with Brett Favre as the quarterback, and with a rookie winning the job, who thought Jones would do that again? Jones has been even better. A fourth-round pick on draft day, he's now the No. 5 running back for scoring this season, with a 10-game streak of double digits in fantasy scoring -- that's longer than Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson.
