Thomas picks Spartans

When Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio received a verbal commitment from linebacker Lawrence Thomas (Detroit/Renaissance) over the weekend it marked the second year in a row Dantonio has landed the No. 1 prospect in the state of Michigan. In February, Under Armour All-American defensive end William Gholston signed with Michigan State over Michigan, Ohio State and a long list of others. By landing Thomas, Dantonio beat out Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, USC, Penn State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Miami and many others who also offered the ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect. Dantonio is off to a great start with his 2011 recruiting class. He also beat out Michigan as well as Wisconsin for running back Onaje Miller (Lansing, Mich./Sexton) who committed to the Spartans in mid-February. In Thomas and Miller, Dantonio already has commitments from two of the top-10 prospects in the state of Michigan.
