A year ago at this time, it would have been foolish to suggest Ben Zobrist was going to become a star player, one of the top middle infielders in fantasy baseball. Zobrist entered spring training 2009 with a .222 career batting average over parts of three seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays. Sure, he was versatile and seemed to have power, but he was no kid at 28 and had been labeled the dreaded utility guy. He didn't even hit much in last year's spring training, with a .212 batting average and nary a home run. Ben Zobrist?

Well, by now we know what happened, and Zobrist is being selected 62nd in ESPN average live drafts. If you took a chance on Zobrist as a free agent last April, that pickup worked out quite well. I don't think it was a fluke, either, not with the power potential and walk rates we've seen from him.
