Rangers' Perez stacks up with Santana

I spent Tuesday afternoon on the back fields at Surprise Stadium, watching the Texas Rangers' best prospect throw two innings in low-A Hickory's game while the Rangers' beat guys watched Scott Feldman make his scheduled start on an adjacent field. Hickory also rolled out a pair of interesting right-handed pitchers and featured cameos from two of Texas' big international signings from last summer. Martin Perez landed at No. 7 on my list of the top 100 prospects in baseball heading into 2010; he was tops among left-handed pitchers on the list, because he's advanced for his age (19 on April 4) with a chance for three above-average weapons.
To read Keith's views on Perez -- and also other Rangers prospects, and some new information on Aroldis Chapman's back stiffness -- you must be an ESPN Insider.
