Hall tops defense-rich mock draft

With the trade deadline passed and the draft order a little closer to its final look, the picture becomes a little clearer. Since our last mock draft at the start of March, a few prospects (paging Mr. Kabanov) have fallen off sharply, while others (hello, Mr. Gudbranson) have climbed quickly. One other big change: Last time we looked just at the top 14 picks, but this time we went the distance, projecting the entire first round of the draft. If you've got a team in the NHL, we've got your first-round pick right here.

Note: Draft order based on standings as of March 30.

No. 1 - Edmonton Oilers

LW Taylor Hall, Windsor (OHL)

A big OHL conference semi against Tyler Seguin and the Plymouth Whalers starts Thursday night in Windsor, and scouts expect that it will cement his status as the No. 1-ranked draft-eligible player.

The horse-race aspect of the top 2 slots has been overstated. Hall has the bona fides and is more NHL-ready.
