Re-examining the catcher position

There are many reasons a player could go from popular preseason mixed league pick to free-agent material just one week into the season, and looking at several of the "coveted" catchers, the explanation warrants more than a few reasons.

Miguel Montero of the Arizona Diamondbacks tore up his knee, so that's why he's being dropped in many mixed leagues. Geovany Soto isn't even hitting his reduced weight, so many fantasy owners have shown him the door. Mike Napoli can't get into his team's games, so his proven 20-homer capability is being featured on the waiver wire. What a crazy start to the season for catchers in the Nos. 6-15 range in the rankings, huh? But really, unless you have one of the top guys, I can't fault anyone for playing musical backstops.
