Ice Box will pass on Preakness

Ice Box, the second-place finisher in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, will bypass the Preakness Stakes, second leg of the Triple Crown on May 15 at Pimlico, and instead point for the final leg, the June 5 Belmont Stakes, trainer Nick Zito said late Wednesday.

Zito initially had wanted to skip the Preakness and go straight to the Belmont, but on Monday, Robert LaPenta, who owns Ice Box, said he was desirous of running in the Preakness, too.
