Luongo's time as a leader is now
A couple of years ago, in a bit of an unusual move, the Vancouver Canucks named goaltender Roberto Luongo as their team captain. In the NHL, goalies aren't captains. By league rules, they can't wear the "C." While he doesn't have the letter on his sweater, Luongo does serve as the club's captain.
At the time, in September, 2008, the Canucks were looking for ways to make sure that Luongo would re-sign a long-term deal with the club. He eventually did.
Tonight, Luongo needs to lead his team in the only way he really can.
