Gomez reaps benefits of a career season

PRINCETON, N.J. -- For Herculez Gomez, the first day at the U.S. pre-World Cup training camp was, in his words, "kinda surreal."

The hot striker was back in a U.S. camp for the first time in three years, after earning his only two career caps at the 2007 Copa America. He admitted he hadn't expected to be here back when he started his club season for Puebla in Mexico's first division.
