Regional matchups and Mets' choices
Regionals get under way Friday, with dozens of draft prospects looking to prolong their final seasons of college ball before signing on the dotted line. Let's take a look at some of the more compelling matchups:
Jacksonville State vs. Auburn
Jacksonville State outfielder Todd Cunningham gets a chance to swing the bat versus big-time competition, with Auburn fielding what's considered a decent pitching staff among the schools still playing.
Cunningham possesses average or better tools across the board, and there has been talk that he could slip into the final few spots of the first round as a slot signing.
Auburn left fielder Brian Fletcher and first baseman Hunter Morris are both candidates to be drafted sometime between the compensatory round and the end of Round 3, and strong performances from here on out can only solidify that status.
Best stuff after the pay wall is probably -- in addition to more analysis from the regionals -- a look at what the Mets might do at No. 7, which is shaping up as the key issue of the top 10 in some respects (along with what the Royals might do at No. 4). For all this analysis -- draft is in FOUR days -- you must be an ESPN Insider.
