Last-minute moves, plus rankings

Just four days remain until draft day and while some clubs probably have a pretty good idea what their final draft board is going to look like, last-second changes are not uncommon. I talked to a former scouting director now working as a club's international coordinator about such scenarios, and the practice of final-minute decisions is actually just "part of the process."

"It really is," he said. "It's just something that goes on and on until you don't have any time left. A few times we went right up to the final few seconds before our clock began and then we sat on a pick until we were just about out of time and then changed the name again."

The point is, this weekend's regionals can indeed play a role in the evaluation process, especially when it comes to clubs outside the top few picks.
