Backup QB landscape is bleak

Many teams boast elite starters but have little protection if calamity strikes

During a recent 10-day break to recharge my batteries, the Baltimore Ravens made a surprising move by signing veteran quarterback Marc Bulger as a backup.

Why, I wondered? Joe Flacco has been durable as a starter, not missing a game in two seasons.
