Bits: Brown debuts, Cahill dazzles
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Domonic Brown made an impressive debut, doubling to deep right to knock in a run in the second inning and finishing with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Promoted from Triple-A Lehigh Valley earlier in the day, Brown is replacing injured Shane Victorino, though he might get only two weeks of regular at-bats.
Oakland Athletics right-hander Trevor Cahill shut down the mighty Texas Rangers offense Wednesday, allowing two singles in eight shutout frames. Cahill continues to amaze; a season ago he was too hittable, giving up 185 hits in 178 2/3 innings. This season, he's permitted a mere 81 hits in 116 2/3 innings.
