Names to know: Tyler Beede, Nick Burdi

The Area Code Games drew a bunch of attention a few years ago, when 2010's No. 1 pick, Bryce Harper, really emerged as a star.

We're roughly halfway through this year's Area Code Games, presented by ESPN Rise and held at Blair Field in Long Beach, Calif. It's an invitation-only event, with teams assembled by MLB scouts through tryouts held across the country, so the rosters are loaded with most of the best high school prospects for the 2011 draft, as well as a smattering of 2012s, with an inherent bias towards players from the West Coast, the Four Corners area and Texas because of the event's location.

Bear in mind that the velocities are nearly always low at this event; these pitchers have been throwing all summer after a full spring schedule. Only two pitchers have hit 94 mph in nine games, with only a handful topping 90.
