NFL Player X: Staying alert at two-a-days
How NFL veterans really survive training camp.
Welcome to camp, boys and girls. I'll be your new NFL Player X, picking up where last season's anonymous All-Pro left off. I don't know who he was, but his observations on money, groupies, agents and life in the league rang pretty true. I promise to take you even deeper this season. So keep hydrated, because it's time for two-a-days.
Now, I know how lucky I am to play in the NFL, but I've gotta tell you, training camp almost makes me wish I were in another line of work. The hours are tough. We go from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, and most of it is spent on work that is unnecessary. We've all been preparing since March, studying our playbook and staying in shape. Camp is just a different version of OTAs. We're still hitting one another in the mouth over and over again. The only difference is, this time, we're in pads. I feel like two-a-days shorten my career, not make me better.
