For Andy Pettitte, a bit of unease
The telltale sign that a player has departed the clubhouse in spring training is the absence of street clothes in his locker, and so on this particular morning in February of 1999, I swung past the locker of Andy Pettitte and glanced inside. A pair of his khaki shorts hung from a hook, above a pair of well-worn adidas. He was still around, someplace.
"You looking for Andy?" David Cone said, from his locker in the corner. "Just find Roger. Andy will be right behind him, following him around like a puppy dog."
