Irish land their first 2012 prospect

Austin Burgett's (Avon, Ind./Avon) commitment to Notre Dame following his weekend visit, in which he caught the Notre Dame-Michigan football game, is big news for the Fighting Irish. "Notre Dame has been on him hard and showed him a lot of attention," said Avon coach Jason Young. "With the close proximity to home, Austin has been able to build solid relationships with the entire staff. It was obvious that they made him a priority." Coming off an excellent summer, the in-state prospect has been a top priority for Mike Brey and his staff; a big enough priority that assistant coach Anthony Solomon's first high school visit on the first day coaches could be out on the road recruiting in September was to Burgett's school. That made a lasting impression with Burgett and Young.
