Knowshon Moreno's leash a little shorter

Laurence Maroney really wasn't looking like he would make much of an impact with the New England Patriots, so I'm not surprised he was unceremoniously traded to the Denver Broncos on Tuesday in a minor swap of mid- to late-round draft picks. The Patriots didn't want him anymore, and they have myriad interchangeable choices at their disposal. The Broncos, however, made quite the statement in taking on the erratic Maroney, and I don't see it as positive news for second-year man Knowshon Moreno.

Moreno is being counted on as a starting running back by many a fantasy owner -- albeit as more of a RB2 -- and his Week 1 went just fine in retrospect. Moreno rushed for 60 yards on 15 carries, while backup Correll Buckhalter ran six times for 15 yards. In fact, Moreno really salvaged his afternoon with a third-quarter touchdown. All preseason I felt good about Moreno, even though he was dealing with a sore hamstring and barely practiced, and I left him in my top 20 among running backs.
