Boise St. schedule strong but still an issue
Once again, plenty of Boise State banter to lead the weekly mailbag:
From Mike in Granby, Mo.: Boise State is ranked in the Top 5 in both total defense and total offense midway through the 2010 season. The "pundits" like to point at BSU's lack of SOS as to why they are ranked so high. But what do the facts tell us? Boise State's SOS currently is higher than the majority of teams ranked in the Top 25. I'm not making this up: BSU has played a tougher schedule than most of the teams in the Top 25 through the first half of the season. Why does that matter? Well ... BSU is ranked in the Top 5 in total offense and defense while playing a tougher schedule than most of the teams in the Top 25. Even while playing easier schedules than BSU, the other Top 25 teams have failed to surpass BSU in total offense and defense rankings. You can cherry pick a school that might be ahead of Boise State in one category, but no one is ahead of BSU in both total offense and defense.
To read why Boise State's early dominance might still not be enough for a BSC championship bid, plus what Bruce thinks of Orgeon and South Carolina's chances at a national title, you must be an ESPN Insider.
