Stock Watch: Sell high on Philip Rivers?

We should find out more about the Week 7 availability of a few key San Diego Chargers players in the coming days, but this team is coming off a loss to the St. Louis Rams and won't have a perceived easy opponent again until December. From a fantasy aspect, it's getting tough to argue that Chargers players are worth trading for. Before the season I wouldn't have expected this, not with Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates and a hotshot rookie running back.

Rivers certainly has done his job, just as Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has managed to overcome one head-scratching real-life loss after another to remain extremely productive statistically. But unlike Romo, his weapons scare me moving forward. Gates isn't merely the top tight end in fantasy, he actually has more standard points than any wide receiver as well, and I'd never jump ship on him. Alas, he's dealing with a toe injury, and the Chargers are merely hopeful he can avoid missing games. Gates always plays through injury, but it's also worth noting that October has been by far the best month of his career. He's still good after that, but not quite as good. And now he's hurting.
