Stefan Steen leads Swedish goalies

From a European standpoint, since 2000 Sweden is surpassed only by Finland when it comes to getting goaltenders drafted. During these 11 years, there have been 25 goalies chosen from Finland and 18 out of Sweden.

Goalies such as Henrik Lundqvist, Mikael Tellqvist, Jhonas Enroth, Anders Lindback, Jacob Markstrom and Robin Lehner have already begun to make a mark in the NHL. But that success may have inflated the value of a few Swedish netminders in the coming draft class.

"Because of the extremely talented group of goaltenders the last couple of years the anticipation of what's coming next has maybe become a little too high," says one scout. "Believe me, the kids this coming draft are all ambitious and focused on becoming great goaltenders, but there's not one that really stands out." Many of his peers seem to have the same idea about the Swedish prospects, but there's still talent to find here.
