Trade to NL good for Zack Greinke's value

Former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke is on the move, as the Kansas City Royals have traded him to the Milwaukee Brewers, and from a fantasy aspect, I can't find any negatives to this deal. Greinke leaves a longtime-struggling franchise for one that probably could contend right away. He'll also likely see more offensive run support. I wouldn't call a return to dominant 2009 statistics assured, but we should certainly expect better than 2010, when Greinke finished up as fantasy's No. 56 starting pitcher on the Player Rater.

Greinke, the No. 5 starting pitcher in ESPN.com average live drafts, obviously disappointed fantasy owners as his numbers fell across the board. Some of that was to be expected, but it was a bit unlucky that Greinke had so much trouble winning games -- he didn't earn his third win of 2010 until his 14th start, in mid-June -- when the Royals scored nearly the same number of runs as in 2009. His peripheral numbers in WHIP and strikeout rate finished similar to 2008, when he was 13-10 with a 3.47 ERA. Greinke ended 2010 at 10-14 with a 4.17 ERA, the latter number more than two runs higher than in 2009.
