The weekend fix for a football diehard

How did an NFL junkie cope with the first weekend without (real) professional football since August? Sure, there was All-Star action and the Grand Slam finals, but it was really the compelling hoops that kept our sports fixes going.

Men's college basketball: Saturday saw the two most talked-about guys in the NCAA, Jimmer Fredette and Jared Sullinger, playing at approximately the same time. Star freshman Sullinger and the No. 1 Buckeyes had the better outcome as they narrowly beat Northwestern 58-57. ... Despite a barrage of 3-pointers by Fredette in the second half, the No. 9 BYU Cougars were upset by New Mexico 86-77. ...
