Sumo wrestlers, coach admit fixes
TOKYO -- Japan's latest sumo scandal widened Thursday as two wrestlers and a coach admitted fixing bouts, broadcasters pulled their support from telecasts and the nation's prime minister accused the ancient sport of betraying the public's trust.
Media reports said police are also now investigating whether active wrestlers bet on the outcome of bouts, deepening concerns that gangsters -- who allegedly played a role in an earlier gambling scandal -- may again be involved.
