Signing day's big winner: Jimbo Fisher
National signing day seems to get quirkier every year, and Wednesday was no different. Being in studio at ESPNU in Charlotte, N.C., for 10 straight hours was a lot of fun. As I fly home Thursday, here are some winners, losers and other observations from a day that gets more and more attention with each passing year:
• My biggest winners for the class were the Florida State Seminoles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Clemson Tigers, Oregon Ducks and Virginia Cavaliers. Now, I'm not necessarily saying that these would be my top-seven classes, but for a variety of reasons that I'll explain below they made big statements.
• It's hard to tag any teams as "losers" since so much of this is speculative, but the signing day disappointments -- in terms of decommitments, lack of momentum, etc. -- were the UCLA Bruins, Pittsburgh Panthers, Mississippi State Bulldogs and Purdue Boilermakers.
