A team of their own

Justine Siegel broke down barriers in baseball when she became the first woman to pitch batting practice in the major leagues. Now, she's encouraging and inspiring other young girls to do the same thing -- girls like the members of the Dream Team, the country's best U-13 all-female baseball squad.

It takes a lot to impress David Segui on a baseball field. The son of a big leaguer and a former teammate of Cal Ripken, Jr. and A-Rod, Segui played 1,456 games in the majors over 14 seasons. Now retired, Segui travels the country representing the Marucci bat company at baseball-related events.

Late last year Segui's travels brought him to a youth tournament in Las Vegas. He stepped away from his booth to catch a few innings of an U-13 team's game and was surprised by what he saw ...
