Bits: There's the Beckett we know and love

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jered Weaver struck out a career-high 15 batters Sunday in beating the Toronto Blue Jays, reminding fantasy owners that it was he who led the big leagues in the K's category last season. Weaver -- the new Player Rater leader as well -- is obviously a pitcher to target, despite throwing an MLB season-high 125 pitches.

Boston Red Sox right-hander Josh Beckett hardly seemed someone to target after his first outing, when he barely made it five innings against the Cleveland Indians, and last season he was tagged repeatedly by the New York Yankees (10.04 ERA), Sunday night's foe. Naturally, Beckett fanned 10 batters over eight shutout innings, allowing just two singles and one walk. Don't call him safe quite yet, but the talent remains.
